Every sheet of decking is walked, sounded, and any soft or delaminated panel is replaced before we go one layer higher. We photograph rot before the underlayment covers it.

Tear-resistant synthetic underlayment fastened with cap nails on 12" grid — not felt, not staples. It's the last line of defense the day a shingle lifts.
Ice & water shield
Peel-and-stick membrane at eaves, valleys, and around every penetration. Self-seals around nails so wind-driven rain can't wick past.
Starter strip & drip edge
Sealed starter along every eave and rake — factory sealant strip on the exposed edge. Metal drip edge under the underlayment at eaves, over at rakes. This is where 90% of "mystery leaks" start.
Field shingles — hand-nailed
CertainTeed Landmark, Landmark PRO, or Presidential — hand-nailed with 6 nails per shingle to the high-wind pattern. Every course walked and inspected before the next goes up.
Ridge vent & hip/ridge cap
Continuous ridge vent for balanced attic exhaust that meets 2021 IRC. Sculpted hip & ridge caps hand-nailed to close the system and drop attic temps 20–40°F.
