Our Commitment to Houston's Combat Veterans
DC Pines Roofing is a veteran-owned company, and that is not just a line on our truck. For every roof, window package, or gutter system we sell, we donate $50 to Grateful Americans Charity, the fundraising arm that supports the PTSD Foundation of America and its Camp Hope campus right here in Houston. Every homeowner who buys from us receives a certificate of donation made in their name.
Where Your Project Money Goes
The PTSD Foundation of America was founded in Houston in 2005 as a 501(c)(3) grassroots effort. A small group of volunteers started by walking the streets of this city looking for homeless veterans. In 2012 the Foundation opened Camp Hope, which began as a single eight-bedroom home.
Today Camp Hope is a five-acre campus in northwest Houston with five residential facilities and 120 beds. Combat veterans and their families live on site while they work through an intensive peer-to-peer program led by other combat veterans, alongside classes, Warrior Group meetings, recovery meetings, and family integration programming. There is a 24-hour crisis line answered by a trained combat veteran, not a call center.
Every bit of it is free to the veteran and their family. That is the part most people do not realize, and it is the reason outside funding matters so much.
The Need Is Not Abstract
The Veterans Health Administration estimates that 44 veterans die by suicide every day. Over the past twelve years, more than 16,000 combat veterans and their family members have found help through the Foundation’s outreach programs and Camp Hope, and more than 1,800 have rediscovered purpose — earning college degrees, finding steady work, becoming financially independent, and reuniting with their families.
Grateful Americans Charity was founded in 2016 and started with two Houston events. It now runs close to twenty events a year nationwide and has donated over $6.7 million to the PTSD Foundation of America and Camp Hope.
What DC Pines Has Contributed
We became a corporate sponsor because Camp Hope is in our backyard and serves the same community we roof. Our contribution comes directly out of work our neighbors hire us to do:
- $50 donated for every roof, window, or gutter job sold
- Just under $12,000 donated last year
- On track to donate just over $25,000 this year
- A donation box in our Houston office for customers, vendors, and team members
- Team members who regularly volunteer their time on the Camp Hope campus
When your project wraps up, you get a certificate showing the donation made in your name. You hired a roofer and, without paying a dollar more, helped fund a bed at Camp Hope.
