Nail guns over-drive through the shingle.
Production crews run pneumatic guns at full pressure to keep up with piece-rate pay. The heads punch through the shingle mat instead of sitting flush on the printed nail line — tearing the granulated surface and leaving a hole where a fastener should be. Every one of those becomes a leak path within a few Houston humid summers.
How we fix it: shingles hand-nailed, six nails per shingle, driven exactly on the printed nail line to the correct depth. A PM checks a random shingle every hour.

Volume roofers get paid by the square, not by the year the roof lasts. Course lines drift, starter strips are skipped on rakes, and shingles buckle within 3-5 summers because the deck wasn't prepped underneath.

Storm chasers cut the materials, not the price.
When a hail claim pays out, the insurance company sets the price of your roof — not the contractor. So storm-chaser crews protect their margin by installing the cheapest permitted materials: bottom-tier 3-tab shingles, thin #15 felt instead of synthetic underlayment, reused flashing, no ice-and-water shield. You're paying premium replacement dollars for a builder-grade roof.
How we fix it: architectural laminated shingles, synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water shield at every penetration and valley, new drip edge and step flashing on every install — written into the scope before we start. No swap-outs, no downgrades.
